SOLVED & FEEDBACK: Quest2 not showing on Build Settings Android Run Devices

Hi all

I am on XR and Management chapter. We are shown how to check Quest 2 is connected for running Unity project directly to Quest 2. However, despite having my Quest 2 successfully connected to the PC via QUestlink and confirmed connected in the Oculus app, Quest 2 does not show in the list of devices in Build Settings->Android-Run Device as shown at 11:14 in the video.

Now I try to google the problem and I find that in the results of the search, it seems we should be signed up as a Meta Developer. I am unsure if that is the reason for why Quest 2 does not show up in the Android build run devices. Could that be the reason? Or might be something to do with installing some adb as I also see in some search results.

I can run the project successfully in XR simulation mode. No errors there and will continue doing the course in the meantime but I do want to solve this build and run on Quest 2 problem.

Thanks

OK, I have finally figured out the problem. It’s a potentially simple solution for anyone else who has the same problem.

It turns out that in the Oculus app, settings->General tab, the OpenXR Runtime is not active by default. Click the button “Set Oculus as Active”. This solves the problem at least for me.

With Quest link connected (or Quest airlink) and connection confirmed in the Oculus PC App, click the launch button in your Quest 2 to go into the PC Oculus environment (its not enough to just establish connection, need to enter the Oculus PC environment). Then go onto your Unity editor (either on your PC or in the virtual desktop within the Oculus PC environment) and simply press the play button.

If I may, as a course-feedback, I suggest for there to be instruction video lecture for connecting Quest 2 as I am guessing a majority of students on this course (including the lecturer himself!) would be using that platform. And even if we are intermediate level Unity users, we are still very new to VR development so it would help to show an instruction video for this.

Thanks
