Solution: Cycles Render Error for RTX Cards

I encountered an error when trying to use Cycles render with a RTX card. The error was:

“CUDA binary kernel for this graphics card compute capability (7.5) not found.”

I followed the following instructions from this link: https://www.blendernation.com/2018/10/27/how-to-fix-the-blender-rtx-2080-cycles-error/

The link in this video for downloading required files is here: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/blender/

After following these steps, I got cycles to work.

My best render times for Blender 2.79b:

EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 (no overclock, so out of box) @ 512x512 = 30.44 seconds
AMD Threadripper 2950x (no overclock, so out of box) @ 16x16 = 52.26 seconds

I’m excited to see what happens when Blender adds support for ray tracing and/or tensor cores. (if this ever happens)

How is the card for games?

I have been enjoying the card with games. I don’t have any gaming benchmarks to share, but it is running circles around my old 1080 especially at 4k.

I wouldn’t recommend it to someone if they just play games. Quite pricey. Since I’m doing blender work and game programming on the side, it is worth the money to me.

What should I do if there is a big ping in the game?
