I’m following the course with a valve index and wonder if I have to change my settings / not install the android module, at the moment I just installed the Open XR and Unity Mock HMD Plugins.

You should be good to go. Just make sure to check the option Initialize XR on startup under Project Settings > XR Plug-in Management
