I found this really exasperating. I am using Mike’s example to make sure I understand what is being accomplished and even with the same image with a ground floor, it took me quite a bit of time and I am not sure my ground is indeed in the correct position.

Yes, it is difficult. But if looks good then keep it.
Because you only need a small part, the piece where the shadow falls.
Experiment and practise.
