Selecting Objects in Blender

I forgot what needed to be set in order to select multiple objects through other solid objects. I know you can turn on x-ray to do this but I noticed in the lectures they were able to do this without that extra step. How is this done?

Holding down shift lets you add more object to the selection, Is that what you mean?
Or ‘A’ selects everything.
Box select gets all inside a mouse dragged box.

I am not infront of my computer atm but I believe ”C” allows you to do a circular cursor select where it allows you to drag over multiple things to select? If I’m wrong then I apologize.

I guess I was trying to see if there was a way to select all vertices through a solid object without turning on X-Ray (see images). I could be wrong and there is no way to do this but was just curious. Thanks for the help!

Yes it is x-ray lets you do that though I prefer full wireframe. I don’t use x-ray much.
