I got kind of carried away poking at materials and seeing what they do. (Edit. I went back and deleted a light source cuz the double shadow was bothering me.

Just my two cents …
If you delete the global illumination lamp.
And make the lamp light a point light instead of a spotlight.
Better shadows.
And then to create smoother environmental light, work with the world light.

Good basic room. Lighting has so many options it will take practice and experience. Keep going thorough the course as it gets more coverage as appropriate.
