I cheated a bit here. I ended up overlapping vertices and then doing a loop cut to jury rig the results that were asked for. I think I have auto-merge toggled on

Making the wedge? Looks like you left an edge along the angled face.

Yup - I guess strictly he had one at the bottom. I could have just done a loop cut there instead. For the given challenge though Iām not to fussed. I suppose I could also have done a rotation from the current position to achieve the same end result.
