I’m not sure what’s going on, but in the rendered view you can see weird creases down the side of the head that aren’t there in the viewport non-rendered mode and don’t go away when I smooth in sculpt mode. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Check to see if you have two edges running close together. That caused unsightly creasing for me. Also try selecting the whole area and apply a vertex smooth.

Is mirror modifier active? maybe vertices crossed the center (and didn’t merged).
Another suggestion;
For softer shadows, replace key-light (point-light), with an emitting object, like a filled circle.
