Something I’m trying to get finished so I can start making proper materials for it.
I don’t really have a lot of time of time to work on this due to work but I thought it was far enough along to show it now.
Very good rust texture on the yellow areas. A great model too. Much more to do texturing like the metal being too clean currently.
Yep thanks! I’m going to texture this later in substance painter but these are just procedural for now, but
perhaps I could play around with the textures more and get them looking nice in blender a bit more
Perhaps this looks a little better?
This side has some nice lighting but shows the stuff I need to finish. The inner frame to hold the platig needs adding and a big pipe for the belly to connect with the pipe running into it at the back needs adding. I’m also going to add a big air outflow where the hole is in the fuel tank.
“metal being too clean currently.” … because your life depends on it, I would say weapons can have a used look (dents, dirt). But are basically cared for, no rust.
Because of the rust (blue-yellow colours), this version looks like a sophisticated gardening tool. Hoses, strengthen that feel …
Also, the orange handle is designed, to put your fingers around. But then the room to move the trigger is gone. The only weapon feeling I got, is the knife in front.
As @FedPete says, currently and it is a wip, the yellow casing is uncared for, but the silver metallic areas are pristine shiny, new. I like the yellow/rust effect, it can be an old weapon picked up or taken from long disuse. The blue and orange may well just be holding materials but look plastic as is.
Good point re the trigger space. Solvable I suspect by enlarging the trigger guard away from the bottom of the trigger, so fingers can be over it without haven to be pulled/fired, to do so.
Thanks for the wonderful feedback folks
Despite a lacking motivation to work on this again, a fellow artist of mine encouraged me to finish this.
She really liked the design of the gun and thought it was a shame I hadn’t finished it.
So here it is finished.
Very nice especially the texturing. All triangulated? Taken out of Blender in another file format?
That’s how it’s done. The triangulate modifier triangulates your model for you. Both the high poly and low poly should be triangulated before exporting it to an external texturing program because if not, other programs may collapse your model as they try to triangulate it. Substance for example regularly breaks models this way as it bring in the model.
Game engines also triangulate everything so better to triangulate your model before texturing to ensure your models contains no tearing artifacts in the normal map or horrible stretching in UVs as seams break or quads get triangulated the wrong way.
Ah I see. They never leave Blender for me!
Ah yep
Kudos to your friend for kicking your rear to finish it! I think it looks very good in sense that I assume it’s some sort of a flamethrower and I am genuinely interested where does it attach to and how does it work.
Funny enough earlier today I watched something on a US flamethrower and how it operates LOL
And thanks for sharing your experience that you can only obtain with work!
Hey, glad you like it! I think I finally settled on the idea of saying it’s a plasma thrower. I thought that was quite unique until I googled it and discovered that other “plasma throwers” existed. But I guess if other people have had the same idea, I guess it’s not too far-fetched. Thanks for sharing the video you were watching recently.
