Scaling edges doesn't work

Hi ive got a problem when im trying to scale edges into the middle among x/y axis (“Create a crate”-time 4:00 ). Ive selected opposite edges, im trying to scale them toward the center of the cube but id doesnt work. Ive used x and y axis and nothing happens. Scaling in Z axis works. Any idea how can i get it to work? I can move edges inwards with “G” and thats fine but im trying to understand why it works in the video but not whem in doing it. Thanks

I suspect this will be down to the pivot point chosen. Hard to tell without a full screenshot.

You are set to individual origins as pivot point. As the cursor is off to the side you probably need to use median point.

Yup, changing from individual origins to median point sorted everything, thank you very much for help.
