Scale works like Extrude + Scale sometimes!

It seems like a bug to me, when I extrude a face, I need to use the scale command if I need before using extrude + scale command to work properly:

if I don’t, and I use extrude + scale command, the scale wouldn’t work as it should and it works like I’m using the insert or extrude + scale commands! (even if I don’t change anything and cancel the ongoing command)

P. S. It does not affect by the insert command

Don’t forget that by pressing e to extrude, Blender expects that the user will move the extruded part (blender activates automatically the g grab mode for you).
Pressing the escape will also cancel the move mode, the extruded part is still there.

You need the i inset tool to make a tube-like object as you showed in the last image.

No it is as expected. Extrude create an ‘extension’ of the selected geometry, you then tell it in which direction, up/down, and in unusual cases even dragged off to the side as well. However, adding S scale means it stays where it is but uses the direction given as in or out.

I think you want it to make a cone by extruding up and in (scaling) at the same time. That it just does not do. It needs two dimensions at the same time to do that I guess is why not.

Want a conical shape, extrude to the height wanted then scale to the top diameter, done.

Yes, but I’m talking about the Scale command, when I scale a face, it should change other faces according to the selected face, right? but when I use Extrude + Scale and cancel the command, Scale only changes the radius of my cylinder instead of that and it doesn’t work like before anymore. Unless I undo or create another object

Just not understanding what you mean.

No changes have been made to these basic functions. If there were any bugs in something so basic it would have been noticed and fixed in days.

I suspect it is something that happens when people have different expectations of how things actually work in Blender.

No!

Extrude COPIES the face(s) at the location of the original face.
If you don’t move then you’ll get double verts (faces on the same spot).
If you then don’t move but scale, your scale the extruded copy and NOT the faces of the original, extruded face. Hence you get the solution in your last image.
This is normal behavior.

  • Try extrude and move the mouse, then scale
  • Or try extrude, scale and move
