Hi there
If you want to rotate around a selected object, you can press number-pad period on the current object selection.
This option also zooms into an object when it has been selected. This is advantages when there is complex scene and you may have trouble finding something sometimes.
I had a quick look over this discussion and didn’t find any information regarding this, or I missed it. only saw the zooming in on an object.
