Rook - set is now complete

Lighting a rook is challenging.
The first image is a spotlight and the other two are an area light. Probably need 3 point lighting.
Maybe in render mode could play with very shallow depth of field, but anyway all the pieces are complete.

Blender physics for lighting is basically the same as in the real world.
Of course, this doesn’t help you.

A lamp emits light and the amount of light will be less depending on the distance to the lamp. This is a factor of two.
If you put a lamp close by, it’s too strong in wattage. So you turn down the watts. But then, this factor 2 will reduce the lamp strength already at close range because the distance and power are closely related. People will add a new lamp to light the dark sides… a complex lighting pattern becomes true.

If you put the lamp relatively far away and increase the wattage, this factor of two reducing light will be less noticeable. The object size and distance to the object have a lower relation. A lamp close by a much higher relation.

It like your 100w lamp in your house, you don’t sit next to it, but at a distance of 3-4meter.

Some rules of thumb

  • Set a lamp further away and increase watts.
  • Or use a sun lamp to get an evenly lit scene
  • You can use world light to give your scene global lighting. If you don’t use a lamp also then no shadows will be cast (world light shines 360).
