Well, I did a newbie mistake and saved over my male character while editing it for the female one. If you’re a person who saves a lot while working, either save as first, or duplicate your mesh and then edit.

Something I also learned is to save a copy of something before making a major edit that saved me the hassle of undoing everything and i can just “revert” back to a neutral state.

Blender, by default, saves the overwritten version to .blend1
.
Change the name and extension and you should recover the previous version.
This behavior can be adjusted, see preferences.
Also when saving, you can add a version number to the files. See [-],[+] buttons next to the file name.
