Regarding Unity Lighting Education

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you would be willing to offer some advice!

I am finally re-entering course land, wading back into essential topics I “saved for later.” In this instance, the topic I chose was lighting, as I remembered that Gamedev.tv had a great lighting course way back when called Unity Tech Art: Lighting For Game Development.

As I had purchased the course through Udemy in advance, I just started it today and noticed… it is no longer available for purchase anywhere, and does not even show as archived on Gamedev.tv’s own platform. I still have access to it, but now I’m stressed. XD Is it outdated? Should I find an alternative?

All I have found so far in terms of alternatives is Unity Learn’s Creative Core: Lighting course, and some obscure “Lighting for Unity” course by Pete Jepson (who I’ve never heard of).

If anyone has any advice on how to address this essential part of gamedev education, I would be extremely grateful. I am working in HDRP, and lighting has been a challenge that I was hoping to address through trusted education (I trust Gamedev.tv way more than anywhere else, honestly).

Thank you for taking the time to read this; I welcome your advice!

i can see the course on udemy with exact same name you provided , but is not from GamedevTv

If you are searching for that course title, I don’t believe you will find it unless you have previously purchased it. Perhaps that is the case for you?

In terms of whether or not this course is by Gamedev.tv, you might be right to an extent, now that I look at it. Rick Davison seemed to partner with the course’s instructor, Wilmer Lin. At the time, I purchased the course due primarily to his involvement and my good experience with courses through Gamedev.tv.

Is a lighting course anywhere down the pipeline for Gamedev.tv now that this course is unavailable?

Hi there! I am just refreshing this topic as I am unsure if it has fallen down the stack.

Would this question be more suited to a different section of the forum?

Also just to confirm that this was indeed a Gamedev.tv affiliated course (as this has come into question in this thread), I am attaching a screenshot in which you can see the logo in the lower left hand corner.

Thank you so much for your time and attention!
