I was wondering why you now use the option “Images as plane” when adding your reference material.
In the previous course you thought us to use the “reference” one which in my opinion is way easier to use.
Instead of having to struggle with switching between your object in wireframe and solid mode over and over again, you can simply make the reference transparent and in the front.
What is the reason you chose to use this technique this time?

I suspect it is as simple as demonstrating the Images as planes version.

Images can be used as a tool to have a reference in the view, but they can also be used to just show a background image (clouds, landscape).
The way how to do it depends on how you used it. For image reference, it is handy to have some options to help you with different views. Switch on of image panels. For a background example, it can be handy to have a plane, configured in such a way, that it always shows its front to the camera (Used a lot in games).
