I decided to use the Red Planet skybox, and more or less stuck to the course for the terrain. I liked the concept of the planet disintegrating maybe with a sun going nova and the planetoid I have created gradually melting, with a purple texture representing liquefying minerals (at some stage it might be good to add a molten lava texture.
