I wasn’t able to put everything I wanted
I got so stressed out, I’m super nervous, this is going to be the first time I’ll try to sell anything I create and that’s freaking me out so hard… The combat system was super buggy so I had to redo it from scratch, now it works perfectly (I think… hope) but it took me so much time to fix I wasn’t even able to put the counter system into this test.
I decided to take a few days off of coding and start focusing on the art of this particular town (going after a Pink Panther style), so far I think is working even better than I anticipated and that definetily pumped me up a lot but this first step was so hard, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to publish what I have, which is basically nothing, but I really need to test it out, it’s the core of the game.
And thank you, really, you checking my threads has given the courage to continue posting.
Very cool. I love playing the games people put out like this. The concept sounds great and I look forward to seeing where you go with it.
You mention that requiring the mouse button to attack is a known issue that’ll be fixed - how do you actually imagine it working? Selecting with K as well? I feel that using solely keyboard input is kind of awkward, and think it’d feel more natural using the “standard” setup of all the keys you need being in WASD range on your left hand, and then using the mouse with your right. Whether that means using a different key for the attack QTE (like mashing space for example, which is in reach of your thumb when you have your hand on WASD) or using the mouse click as well - just something to consider.
That’s really the one thing that stood out to me - the attack selection I can see where you’re going with it (I saw a second windup style attack in one of your videos so I know there’ll be a lot to see once implemented), and once you get levels set up I’ll be excited to go through them.

I’m imagining this game coming out on consoles and that’s why I decided to go for full keyboard control, but guess you are right, I probably should let player use the mouse, that’s gonna require some refactoring but in the end it will feel a lot more comfortable! I’ll totally change that for the next update!
Ah yes, of course if controller is going to be the only control method than worrying about usability for KB/M input wouldn’t be part of your design. I was coming at that comment with the thinking that it would be since it’s what we were using to test, but if the input truly won’t be supported than no reason to spend too much time on it. You’ll know best on how far to take that input scheme.

I agree with his feedback about the mouse and controls. It was really satisfying tapping K when I wanted to do a super move. One thing that confused me was the Illusion of choice with the icon over the enemy. It makes me feel like I can choose which enemy to attack but then I was playing it only chooses the enemy in front and then goes down the list. I’m pretty sure you have a plan for eventually being able to select which enemy to attack? I see where you are going and so far am loving it. Just keep it up. Thinking about you where want to go and where you are now is going to paralyze you. Just continue to put in some effort everyday and slowly this game will come along. I’m in love with your art style and I’m excited to see this combat system get fleshed out. You got this!

Yeah, I’m planning to have several type of attacks, ones that can hit enemies that are far away and others that can’t.

I don’t use facebook, I actually don’t use any of the popular social media, I kinda hate it. It’s probably one of those sacrifices I should make, but I honestly don’t like it at all.
It’s all good. It’s probably way better anyways. Social media can be bad or good.
