Quick tip to extrude the bottom part of the ramp by the exact correct value

I’m one of those guys that likes to do everything as exactly as possible, so I wanted the bottom of the ramp to line out with the X and Y axes as close as possible.

So in order to do that, I created a plane at (0,0,0). Then I enabled Snapping to Edge, and I extruded the faces at the bottom of the ramp. Now it seems to line up with these axes well.

After that you can just select the edges at the bottom of this new diamond shaped mesh, press [G] [Z] and drag it up until it snaps to the plane.

That’s it. Now you can delete the plane.

Thanks for the tip it will be useful as one method of doing this to new students.

I had the same urge as you do!
But Blender isn’t a tool to create building blueprints.
It can be done as you’ve proven and there are even more Blender features that help you with this.
But try to let it loose. Because shifting vertices around, is doable.
But more projects will end in the 100K vertices or even millions.
try to learn Blender, in the way it’s supposed to use/work for.

But above all, have fun!

Blender can feed your ‘Exactly’ mania!
