If you’d like to do something different, by all means go ahead and experiment. I would suggest making something that’s at least somewhat similar so that it’s easier for you to follow along, but Grant himself encourages students not to make precisely the same thing he is. Creativity is good!

There’s no reason you can’t do both. I think that’s a neat idea, it’s just that the more radically different your intended model is from what’s being taught, the more work you have to do to translate what you’re seeing in the lectures and apply it to your own model.

What I’d suggest is, since it’s clear you really want to, go ahead and start with Monster Duck! If you find that the translation I talked about it becoming too tedious, just shelve it for a short time while you follow Grant with something a little more similar, just to learn the techniques. Then you can come back with the knowledge you gained and without having to follow a course alongside making your own model. It’s just more practice either way, and whatever you decide is completely up to you =)

It is probably a good idea to do the course as it is first, especially if it is all new to you. Then you can do your Duck with some experience and knowing what to expect.
