Question about bowling ball animation

HI,

I created the animation of the bowling ball striking the pins. I have one small issue. After the ball strikes the pins, there is a weird issue. When the pins are first bouncing around, the top of the pin goes into the floor. (see screen shot from the video). After they bounce a little the issue doesn’t re-occur. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
LeifW

You could try changing the collision shape to mesh.

Check the margins on both pin and floor.

Run the animation in solid working view first.

Assuming the origin point is set to centre of mass, and there are no inverted normals.

Thanks for the reply. How do I check the margins as you suggest?

I would check the center of gravity first (your objects center point).

I changed the center point to Center of mass. That helped quite a bit. The problem exists only a tiny bit
now. Weird.

Blender doesn’t calculate the exact face (pin) to face (floor) collision. But it uses a simplified shape around the pin. You need to increase the margins a bit. I forgot how for me this lesson was many years ago
Maybe others can help you on your way. Or study a bit on the web.

Have fun!

Physics Properties, Rigid Body section, Sensitivity dropdown. Gives you a margin option to play with.

This was helpful. I changed the margin and the issue was resolved. I did notice that the behavior of the pins bouncing was also changed a little. Not worse, just different. Thanks for the help.
