I had some trouble with the inset tool. The thickness read as a decimal number and when I typed in 1 it inset to the center. I realized when I scaled the base cube in object mode I didn’t apply the scale. Posting final result after I got it to work.

Well done for sorting it out. That old Apply rotation and scale is at the bottom of many, why isn’t it workings!
