Prototype for Shadowrun / Zelda style game

I decided on prototyping a city street, which will be a common environment in my game.

  • NPC Enemies strewn about the area in pairs or single (may change later)
  • vehicles, benches, and a few hydrants
  • an indication of where the road and sidewalks are

I now have an idea on the scaling that feels about right, and the space seems ok too. I have tweaked the movement of the player somewhat, but wanted realistic movement so didn’t go crazy on the tweaks. The camera (as shown in the in-game picture) is perfect as is so far, although I will have to add proper camera collision and occlusion. I may have hotkeys added to rotate the camera 90 degrees left / right later.

Not sure how I want to have the player engage enemies. Possibly a system like Fallout’s VATS where it pauses the action so you can pick your target. Most likely, however, I will probably just go with an aggro range system, so if the player comes in range of an enemy, he will be rushed by one or more of them.

Interested to see how this evolves as the course carries on, also interested to hear any feedback so far. Thanks!
