Problem with applying scale to bones

I have my bones parented to the lamp, all transforms are applied apart from the armature:

When I apply the scale to the bones, this happens:

The lamp model shifts down on the Z axis for some reason, anyone know what is happening?!

I worked this out during the next video, I had parented my lamp to the bones before applying scale which was causing my issue!

Well solved. Often the root of problems. Apply rotation and scales unless you have a very clear need not to, is the rule of thumb.
