Practicing environments: Enchanted woods

Hey!

I have recently finished the environments course and wanted to repeat some of those techniques, for practicing. Also tried some methods which were new to me, like particle systems or mists. I came up with these enchanted woods. Feedback is highly appreciated!

I like it, but I’m missing the fact that leaves are a bit transparent (subsurface) to direct sunlight. Still a great project!

Thanks, @FedPete ! Good point, I completely missed working on the material for the leaves. I found some hints here and tried to adopt parts of it.

Does this make sense?

To play with light more, you could manipulate the individual node (alpha, subsurface) differently.
So many things to fiddle with. Enjoy!

Very nice project! IMO a bit too dark. Also, I agree with FedPete about SSS.

I agree about it being a bit too dark, though it does seem to be a bit lighter / brighter than the original render.

Overall nicely done.

The tree leaves look a little ‘flat’ you might be able to make the image planes more distorted? The grass is far too sparce though. Which helps make it look like a render.
Problem is ground tier of woodland is full of all sorts and not that much grass on the whole. That is why grasslands are open and largely treeless in a woodland sense!

But these are critiques as suggestions to improve a generally very good result.

Thanks for all the feedback. I’ll go tinkering with those hints in mind

Here is a revised version. I have the feeling that I still need more practice with the subsurface scattering. Overall, it’s brighter, has a new texture for the ground and I added slightly more plants, but less grass. I also removed the mist effects, because they caused some artifacts.
