When I move from portal to portal the heigh of the terrain is not accounted for so my player lands halfway underground. What can I do?

When I move from portal to portal the heigh of the terrain is not accounted for so my player lands halfway underground. What can I do?
Adjust the portal’s spawn point within the scene so that it is on the ground.
Then something else is going on… the player should be getting moved to the spawnpoint. Are there any error messages in the console?
