For my animal, I decided to do a Porg from Star Wars! I would really appreciate any tips on getting the eye sockets and the fur to look more accurate, especially the feathery look of the wings.

More hair, more variance in hair, hair combing.
Improve lighting, advanced texturing (hair), more faces (vertices).
But you did a good job, really nice project outcome.

A single hair is divided over a face or vertices.
To make it denser hair you could switch on children. But they share generic properties.
More faces will gibe place for more parent hair particles, more control how to comb etc.
