[Please Help] Convex and Decimate create a mess of vertices and stops decimation

I spun the pin bezier, after turning it into a mesh, with 24 iterations.
…removed doubles
…set the origin to the bottom center of the pin

Then when I convex mesh the object i get a bunch of weird geometry. And when I try the decimate modifier it will only go up to 5 iterations before it stops simplifying the mesh.

I’m fairly certain it’s not a stray vertex. I’m guessing it’s the amount of initial iterations from the spin that might have given it a weird number to work with.

edit I solved the decimation issue. I went into edit mode and removed all the weird vertices and edges.

Here you can see the amount I’ve set the decimate modifier and it’s still mostly intact.
