the texture for some reason is pink

Purple color is a way by Blender to let the user know something isn’t configured correctly.
Like the to-be-generated pixels information (bitmap) isn’t available, or contains incorrect image data.
Try to solve your problems on your own, by thinking logically in the Blender way. It’s part of the learning journey to learn Blender. Repeat the steps, one by one and test if they are working properly.
