Oop I thought they were holes so I did bridge loops

Is there an easier way to make holes like this? I did loop cuts and matched them up on the inside and outside with snap to vertices. Then I used bridge faces.

I’ve also been using array instead of linked duplicate and I’m not sure if there is a benefit to either.

You would likely get more responses if you were to re-label this as a question topic.

As to the answer: Perhaps if you tried using a Boolean modifier?

true, we ended up talking about it in discord. I think the easiest, prettiest way to do it is by removing the faces you don’t want then extruding out on the normals. It makes the right typology but doesn’t take a lot of selecting inside faces and making loopcuts on the inside and outside

wow we ended up in a long discussion about this trying to get it to look good with smoothing too. that was something.

And from bOBaN about doing it with smoothing

and I correct myself… there are 4 triangles, so not only quads (on edges)

I also thought they were holes so I made a small, long box and used the boolean modifier.

I think in the reference image that is holes as everyone saw it that way. I deleted faces on the inside and out side of the barrel and then picked opposite faces from the inner and outer barrel and connected them with the face (f) command. If I remembered how to bridge that would have gone faster.
