Sorry [nerd-mode off], somehow I had gotten this line stuck in my head for this post. So I went one step further (as hinted by the lecture): I went and put all white pieces under the chessboard. This was hinted to in the lecture, but the nice part that you can immediately see when having a real object as parent: scaling/moving/rotating can be done and all descendent pieces follow! So whatever you do with the board now, all else follows!
Side note, as I also have mock-ups still present, I also put these in my hierarchy which is shown on the right in the picture.
