It was mentioned in a previous lecture that when exporting to a game engine you need to do a uv unwrap as box projection will not carry into a video game - will texture painted objects carry over into unreal engine?

As I understand it game engines will need UV mapped image-based textures. That section of the course was really a lesson in how to do procedural textures. Some of the later methods can be adopted for those wishing to take their rocks into a game engine. Procedural textures can even be baked onto images for such use.
13:58 Adding Detail section, Procedural Textures, Grant mentions this about having to bake out procedural textures for those that are interested in game engines.
