Hey there, I’m not actually having problems with my object center but was wondering how you bring it back to center if I were to be off-center while mirroring?
The origin can be manipulated by hand, using the 3D cursor as the new location.
Or let Blender calculate the center of object mass.
If you started with a cube, added vertices, manipulate them (so the gravity center would be changed!). And you move the origin point, then there is no going back to the original cube origin point.
But it could be the 0,0,0 coordinate if you didn’t move the object.
Normally you add an EMPTY to the scene and use that object as the middle of the mirroring.
In the case of the cube, located at 0,0,0, add an empty (also 0,0,0) and us the empty as mirror point.
Define the centre. It’s easy with geometric shapes. But what of a dog?
So there are ways to move the origin point to fit use cases. If mirroring you might well want the mirror point on one side not the centre of the current geometry.
Or use another object or a ‘device’ called an empty.
Select the edge loop which you want to mirror from.
Shift+S will bring up your 3D cursor menu. Choose “Cursor to Selected”.
Now in Object Mode, right-click and under “Set Origin” choose “Origin to 3D Cursor”.
