Not feeling Motivated

Dunno why I’ve just had zero enthusiam for going on to the rabbit section. I’ve been enjoying the course when I can spend some time with it. I enjoyed the previous section but I can’t seem to get started on the new one. I even watched the first few videos without practicing along.

I did work on some off course scene but I’m finding it difficult to find the time.

I don’t know what to expect from this post and I want to make sure you are aware I’m not putting down the blender course at all.

So do you guys ever get a block in will for doing something?

All of the time @Wesley_Acheson! Well, not all of the time, but a lot of the time. It can be quite challenging to keep a momentum going for a length of time when there are so many other things happening all around us.

Sometimes I find a little break from things can be helpful, but I have also found that having too long a break can then make it more difficult to return to - on that note I will confess that it has been 4 years since I went to the gym. I have in the last 18 months gained 3 stone. It has become a self-defeating spiral - I am over weight and feel like I have no energy to go to the gym in an effort to lose it, because I don’t go, I don’t lose it… and around I go!

Sometimes I have found a little change in direction can be useful, you said yourself that you did a little off-course work, that’s great, be proud of that, that’s kind of the point of taking the course isn’t it - so in a lot of ways there you have actually made more progress

Maybe a little bit of self-evaluation is in order, I’m one for lists, perhaps jotting down the reasons for why you wanted to take the course and then the things you have really enjoyed doing, along with the things that have been more challenging - but on that last one, be sure to frame it positively, so perhaps a specific lecture was really hard, but guess what, you got through it, so well done! If you can identify what you have enjoyed so far, why not go back and have another go at one of those items, but put your own spin on it. For example, if you had enjoyed doing the bunny lecture (I appreciate that’s the one you’ve stopped at at the moment), why not do it again, but choose a different fluffy beasty! Or create a completely new beasty! Just have some one with it and create something weird.

I haven’t been through the showcase topics for a little while (I need to do that more often!) - but if you haven’t share some of the work you have done, consider sharing it with the other students/members - a little feedback can go a long way and do a lot of good. Mention the things you were proud of, the things you found more difficult, perhaps other people will have found the same things challenging so then you won’t feel like you are the only one.

I am definitely a procrastinator, especially at the moment anyway (a long story I won’t bore you with), but I did enjoy watching this Ted talk, it might not be exactly how you are feeling or how’d you’d describe yourself, but it may well offer a little light hearted humour - and that’s a good thing too

Enjoy:

Thanks for the long and thoughtful response. I did actually watch that video last week. When I was supposed to be doing something else. Hows that for irony

Now that actually just put a bit smile on my face! It is a good video though…

Again, forgive me if you have already seen it, or are perhaps already taking part in it, but there is a weekly challenge topic running, has been now for a number of weeks, where-by a theme is thought of and then the guys and gals work on something in Blender with that theme in mind, all aimed at completing something, as best as possible, but within that deadline of a week. They then all share on the forum. If you’ve not seen it do check it out and if you feel like it get involved, maybe having that little feeling of a bit of accountability might be all the push/motivation you need to get back on track

With the Blender course, I have to remind myself that I’m not just learning a software program, it’s also art. Art requires passion and inspiration.

I hope that you feel that you’re far enough along that you can imagine a similar object or scene that you want to move from your head to the screen. Maybe instead of a rabbit, find another simple furry creature to create; like a kitten, a baby chick, or a furry alien baby. I sometimes feel like I’m just copying or duplicating someone else’s picture at times if there isn’t a bit of me in it.

Every artist needs their muse. Good luck; be inspired!

Sometimes I lose a bit of interest but usually when I’m having problems with something, actually defying that negative feeling and pushing yourself onwards and upwards gives you that increased reward of knowing you completed it in some form.

Thanks for your words guys.

I’ve done very little in the last while. Last night did get to texture the scene I’ve been vaguely working on for a bit.

Very pretty, I’m sure she’ll love it

Sometimes, you just have to take time off and do other things. Life is very busy for most of us and, I know my creative juices seem to ebb and flow in cycles. It is not a bad thing it just is. LOL after many years, I have learned to live with it and not be frustrated by it because I know I will go back to it at some point.

Plus, I have learned if I am not interested in something I tend not to have the motivation to try. Other than not having the skills needed, some of the weekly challenges I have zero interest in due to their subject matter like vehicles or anything having to do with space! Just not my thing. Give me some more neutral or girly challenges. LOL

I didn’t think I would like the bunny section, but I learned a lot and found it very interesting. Whereas, I thought I would like Section 7 and thought we would be creating a Gothic church and have been so disappointed because it seems to be more about creating on you own. I thought yeah, I would learn how to make arched windows and vaulted ceilings and such. It is not what I anticipated and have found I have to drag myself to the computer to watch a lecture a night just to get through it to lectures I find useful.

Maybe try some of the weekly or the monthly challenge while you are in a non-motivated holding pattern? Or, if it is allowed, put forth your own challenge to others? Another suggestion, go back through the lectures and redo the projects making them higher poly and add other things or put your own spin on the projects?

I have full confidence you will become motivated soon! BTW, very nice wine glass scene!

Thanks. Space and vehicles are two common things your going to see as themes I think. There are some hangovers from CHI infancy.

I’m terrible for procrastinating and it can make me feel quite down in the dumps when
nothing is accomplished due to my own distaste for work.

What I’ve found over the years is that I created a “mental state” for working, with music, food and a few other things so now, whenever I want to work on something, on goes the same album, I get my lollies and pow! A full nights work is done.

Everything and Everyone has its own pace…

Hope you find you way…hang in there, mate.

Cheers.:footprints:
