My technique for wedging

I didn’t think to extend the edge like in the video. Instead I just made a rectangular prism and then moved the position of the top edge to the bottom. I’m not sure what Blender does with that face that was collapsed.

It is till there. Unless you did also merge vertices.
This double faces (sharing the same space), gives you a lot of problems in texturing. Generating strange render effects. Try to avoid!
