My take on BlockBreaker: "Monster Dentist" (WebGL)

Hey fellow BlockBreakers. Here is my interpretation, “Monster Dentist”. I made some artwork and music for it, hope you like it.

Your task is to treat the monsters bad teeth by crushing them. I made 3 level but you only have 1 ball to get through. I think the difficulty is above average but although I failed a lot during testplay I was motivated enough to “give it one more try”. I hope you have the same experience. I would be happy to get some feedback.

I think the artwork is great! I like your music FX - very subtle. And the music is nice too - you must be a one-man-band type of a person, aren’t you?
The only thing that annoyed me was the fact that mouse movements don’t work beyond the game window, making me lose control over the paddle (or the dentist’s tool). This might be a limitation of the WebGL player though - not sure. But if that’s the case, I think the mouse movement just don’t work for this project / player. It’s not your fault though - I’m mentioning this because this is the reason I wasn’t able to complete the game, despite the curiosity of the following levels.
But overall it’s a really great execution of this exercise!

Hi @JuliuszK – thanks for the feedback. :slight_smile: I wasn’t aware of this mouse / WebGL player limitation – but you are right, this is annoying. During my test sessions I rarely left the playing field with my mouse. Mh, I think I will have to improve this as soon as I learned how to integrate other control devices. Thank you for pointing that out.

No, prob.
Also, what I noticed is that some builds actually still can read the mouse movement even with the cursor outside the game area. They have the game on the monitor’s screen left, instead of centered. Not sure what it depends on. Maybe it’s the Unity’s version? HTML vs WebGL? I need to find out myself too…

Ah, I found out that it has something to do with how the web player is implemented. Look here: http://meikmense.de/games/unity-course/MonsterDentist/index.html – this is the original HTML code generated by Unity. For itch.io I uncommented all the additional Unity UI stuff to get a proper 800 by 600 px stage – which apparently also disabled the mouse working outside the stage… alright, got to figure out how to implement this in itch.io properly…

OK, I changed the player back to the original Unity Code and made the canvas in which it is placed a lot bigger. I think it works a lot better now: “Monster Dentist” on itch.io

Wow really liked the start menu and all the artwork on it? which program did you use ?
Illustrater ?

Hey, @Hsgngr – thanks! Yes, I used Illustrator and a cheap Wacom tablet. As a cheaper alternative to Illustrator Affinity Designer or Inkscape work also pretty well.

Hey,
Yes, that plays way better now - I got to the second level! :). Btw. I missed the fullscreen option before, which looks really good - your artworks holds up pretty well on a HD resolution. And the mouse pointer is not as distracting as on the smaller stage. :slight_smile:

Nice Artwork!! :wink:

@JuliuszK: Thanks a lot. :slight_smile: Perhaps I’ll add some more lifes to be able to complete the game, let’s see…

@Miguel_Bailote: Thank you, sir!
