My Render Times - GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080ti, CPU: Intel i7 3.2Ghz

Per the lecture on lowering render times in Cycles, I thought I’d share my best times here. I have my specs listed in the topic titles, so I’ll just share my respective times and thoughts.

GPU - CUDA: 00:47.47 with tiles set at 960 X, 540 Y
CPU: 01:55.33 with tiles set at 32 X, 32 Y

Interestingly enough, I tried changing the tiles to 16x16 and 8x8 for the CPU and found that the difference was in approximately 20 miliseconds at most between 32x32 and 16x16 while 8x8 actually increased render time by a few seconds. Meanwhile, the GPU times were dropped by about two seconds when I increased the tile size from 480x270. My dabbling in speedrunning leads me to want to stick with the lowest respective times, but given the almost negligible differences in CPU times, I’ll probably stick with 32x32 if I need to render using my CPU for any reason. It was interesting seeing the differences in time to be sure.

You can render using both gpu and cpu. Just go to preferences-> system -> CUDA and tick boxes for both your cpu and gpu.

Took me 21 seconds to render for 1080p and 1min 17 sec for 4k using gpuc+cpu rendering.

Times for cpu only rendering are 54 sec for cpu only and 27 sec for gpu only.
