Ill be honest, rather than mess with textures in blender, I chose to replace the brick texture i found via google, to one based on my own house wall, using Gimp. To do this I had to learn how to use gimp to tile. The result was very quick - it has some great tiling features. This wont be my final brick texture, but it already makes the walls look much more like the real thing and it only took a couple of minutes, from discovering the feature, to having my own brickwork in blender.
