My manual orc topology

Here’s my personal orc topology. I must say, I quite enjoy the retopology process…it’s like a big puzzle. I tried to follow some references, but I have some loops that do not go where I want to. I think I need more practice and a better understanding of the key loops to put in place so that the rest flows smoothly.

Triangles or 5 vertices faces are nearly unavoidable!
They create centre poles were 3 or 5 edges come together.
But when you decide upfront where they should occur (a bit of experience will be handy) then you can direct the loops as you want or need. So practise a lot and this workflow will be better.

have fun.

You’ve done a nice job here, it’s all great but particularly the head.

Like me you probably find if you model anything a 2nd time, you better understand the geometry flow.

To me that just confirms gaining more experience helps anticipate how a model in its early stage creation will suit its later detail stage.
