At the moment I like to model crowns, because they are an ideal subject to practise with modifiers and so I

can improve my hardsurface modeling skills…

At the moment I like to model with simply a plane as a start point

  1. a plane
  2. subdivide, delete the half, add a mirror modifier
  3. delete some faces to work on the shape // move some of the vertices, using PET or not
  4. subsurf
  5. solidify
  6. arrange the solidify above the subsurf in the modifier stack
  7. apply the mirror and the solidify
  8. add some loopcuts to precise the shape

These approach may be useful for modeling things like forks…
