My first Project (Boost) demo

project-boost

This is my demo from the Project Boost part of the Unity 2.0 course. It’s only 7 test levels for now, I’ve stuck fairly close to the lesson materials in this (compared to some of the fantastic other creations out there) but have plans to start a whole new variant now I’ve learnt the basics with this test. Anyway, please have a go and let me know what you think (best played on Chrome/Firefox… Mac Safari has WebGL lighting issues). Thanks!

Controls
A = Rotate Left
D = Rotate Right
Space = Thrust

Levels: 7

I like how when you crash, you only go back one level! Great twist!

Thanks for trying my game. :slight_smile:

My plan with the ‘level back death’ mechanic was that you could ramp up the skill/difficulty levels quite high, but also give players the chance to master sections without the frustration of permadeath.

I like the introduction of music and I am also fan of only going back one level on death.

My only suggestion at this time would be to use the lighting to highlight important areas of the levels where the player may run into something. Specifically I am thinking of level 3 where there is a dark little tip of a box poking out that is hard to see but can still kill the player.

Nice work overall.

Thanks for the feedback @BDillow I totally agree with you. Annoyingly the WebGL builds of my game isn’t rendering the lighting quite right as on standalone builds there is much more detail to be able to see objects.

I agree things needs to be clear though so will look into it for the main build.

Thanks.

Hey Andy,

Fun game you put together. I really appreciated your rocket design. The coloring in the levels also seemed to give it a little bump as well. Play worked very smoothly. The levels I think could have used a bit more room perhaps. I felt a little closed in. The music you used went well with the theme and I really like, as many others mentioned, the twist of going back 1 level instead of the beginning. Good job Sir!
