I firstly done the plane according to the instructions cause I was truly lost and did not know where to start so I created the model from the tutorial…Afterwards I wanted to do some extra to learn more and spent like 1 1/2 hour doing another model just from my imagination and some pics of wooden planes I found online…I was so proud of my work just until I entered this discussion to see works of others 
But seriously, although my work is really basic I am so much proud of myself…considering that I am working with Blender just for 2 weeks and never ever have I worked with any graphic program before …moreover I was had issues with math and IT and this kind of things…
I believe everybody has his/her own learning process and it is completely fine that way…
