Hey everyone! Thank you very much for this course, it helped me to quench the thirst for 3d modelling I had for years. I’m learning Blender to be able to create my own game assets for a project I’ve had in mind for 2 years now. I know I have a long way to go but until then I wanted to share my first 3d model.
tldr - Below I’m explaining how I got to create this
So I started doing the ramp model in the course and then thought, what would happen if I make a sphere slide down the ramp, so I kind of paused the tutorial and created a sphere, then looked online for blender physics and it worked. Then I wondered if I could create some spikes in the ramp so it will be like a plinko style game. Did that, and got bored fast, then I wanted to make a spherical shape for the ball to fall into, like a bowl, so I looked into how to make that. Fooled around with subdivisions (new to me in blender) and colors (transparency), failed at texturing to be honest, i still don’t know how to work with those yet but i managed to learn a lot about blender’s shaders.
At this point I saw in the sphere’s physics there was a “cloth” option. So I was curious but I failed at that too, couldn’t make it work. Watched a couple of tutorials, and Voila! managed to create my first 3d model rendered in blender. I know it’s a simple one but I was so impressed of how it came out (as being the first ever rendered thing I did) that I wanted to share it with you guys.
Now, I’m sharing this process with you to emphasize something else: the journey to this rendered … thing I loved it. I know it’s simple thing but please understand I’m not an artist or designer or… talented. But through this course and these tools we have at our disposal nowadays I managed to create something and I’m really proud. Failed a lot and it took more hours than it should’ve, but the journey here was exciting and informative. Now I know I can make all my asset placeholders at least, and share the story I’ve been building so far, with the world. I look forward to that but there’s a lot more I need to learn so I’m going back to the ramp tutorial
Again, thank all of you for your dedication and love for what you do! This means a lot to me. here’s the model
