I didn’t stray far from the lesson, but I figured I’d show mine anyway. I was gonna add blood but I couldn’t find any free textures.

You can get some free splatter textures here if you want.
Personally I would go for the ones with the green Free mark on them. Those are CC0 public domain which means you’re good to use them anywhere anyhow.
The purple free ones are you can download but they may have some kind of licensing attached to them.
