And how many vertices …
This because a face is basically a group of vertices.
Where a simple face starts at 3 vertices (triangle).
But a complex one can have many.
Which is not advised.
Try to have quads, faces with four vertices.
Which make edge loops possible.

Parts you are not actively working on can be displayed in the viewport as ‘bounds’ A wire box instead of the object. This can make working viewports handle bigger scenes. Via Object Properties tab, scroll down to Viewport display, Find the Display as Dropdown box almost certainly set to Textured by default, and change it to ‘bounds’.

In heavy scenes I have found it really helps.
