I have been following Rick’s basic plan as my prime purpose in this course is to improve my Unity/C# skills rather than to produce my own RPG at this stage as my main interest would be in developing board style wargames emulated on the PC. However, I came up with a couple of different solutions:
-
Rather than ramps I came up with a defile by using the terrain painter to cut into the hill this allows the player to run down and keep catching glimpses of the village before the full reveal.
-
To create the water, rather than painting it on the terrain I created a plane water table set to the water material and cut it across the terrain by setting it at a y value 1m betow the base terrain height. Tis put in all the water features (river, moat, etc) in one go and had them all consistent and independent of the terrain itself.
I am sure that this is not an oroginal method but I am rather proud of having thought of it myself.
