In the lecture Exporting An Image Sequence we imported an image sequence inside blenders movie clip editor to be able to see it within blender. Importing normally did not work for me, it just played the first 2 frames, because apparently you need to fix the sorting of your images before you import an image sequence. So make sure your sorting looks like this before you import your image sequence, then it should work fine:
