Took me a while to get it right. UE4 will import textures and create materials for them IF
you have the images in a format Unreal supports (not tif)
you set up the materials in Blender render (cycles isn’t sufficient)
you check both import materials and import textures in the import window in Unreal Engine 4
I even used multiple UV maps, one per material

Is exporting model to Unreal explained in this course? Or you just decided to do it yourself?
There’s a few lectures on importing into Unreal, but he focusses more on importing into Unity. I have UE4 installed and not Unity, so I’ve been using that instead.
