I used textools to create the ref images and I plan to keep working on this as I go through the courses.
This character looks really well done. There is a lot of detail even for low-poly.
Please keep posting as you work on this. It’ll be fun to see the progress.
Seems to be coming on well. Nicely set up reference.
Wait, what is textools? I would love to model my FF14 character this method as well, and maybe if possible my WoW character as well.
Textools is a 3rd party tool for viewing textures and models from a local FF14 installation. It also lets you export models as an obj, which is how I did the refs.
Once you have it installed:
- Search for a piece of equipment you want to use
- Go to the Models tab and select the character’s race (Au’ra and Mi’qote use Hyur as a base)
- Click “Add to FMV”. It’ll open a new window, the Full Model Viewer. Repeat for each part of the body
- Once you have everything, use the export button at the bottom of the FMV window.
Head up though: doing anything with the model in blender can be slow, it comes with the full textures and rigging.
I don’t know about WoW, but it’s been around long enough I’m sure there’s model viewers for it too.
Good luck!
