OS X (and Windows as well I guess) don’t allow to run two instance of any applications. To do so you can find a solution involving some Terminal commands, but by default it’s impossible to run two Blenders at one time.
Easy way to render full image: unbox “border” option under “Aspect ratio” in a render options. It will not disable borders, but ignore them in a render.
